THE share market opened sharply weaker today after softer metal prices overnight and a fall in US markets painted a bleak picture for skittish local investors.
Heavyweight resources and banking stocks led the way down in early trade.
At 1015 AEST the S&P/ASX200 was 37.5 points lower at 4431.7 while the All Ordinaries fell 33.8 points to 4395.9.
On the Sydney Futures Exchange, the December share price index had fallen 36 points to 4438.
Overnight in the United States the three major indexes had their lowest close in about five months.
